Vacation Rental in Tyrol—Rediscovering a Vacation Classic

The AlpeChalets Goldener Hirsch is located in Scharnitz, Tyrol, not far from the border between Austria and Bavaria. The vacation rentals consist of two suites. The Karwendelhütte vacation home is also part of the complex. The name of this vacation home is no coincidence. The town of Scharnitz is located on the Scharnitz Pass—the route connecting Seefeld in Tyrol to Garmisch-Partenkirchen—at the end of a valley widening in Austria. This is where the Karwendel Valley, the Hinterau Valley, and the Gleirsch Valley meet. The town is also known as the “Gateway to the Karwendel,” as it lies at the entrance to the nature park in Tyrol. The Isar River flows past the town; its source is located just a few kilometers west of the town. Scharnitz is considered an important starting point for many mountain bike and hiking tours through the Karwendel Mountains in Tyrol. In winter, the town plays a key role in the Seefeld region of Tyrol for winter sports in Austria. Downhill and cross-country skiing are available locally on the slopes and trails. The town of Seefeld itself has a population of about 1,400. The nearest large lake in this part of Tyrol is Lake Achensee—not far from the Karwendel and Scharnitz. More tips from our blog.
