HISTORY OF THE CHALETS AND NAMING OF THE TWO LODGES

HISTORY OF THE CHALETS AND NAMING OF THE TWO LODGES

Did You Know that…

for many years the “upper and lower Bichl” here in this beautiful area, at the entrance to the Karwendel Valley on the Isar, always belonged to the Manzl family property through the grandparents of the current owner Mario?

But from the Beginning…

Around 1950, his grandparents Edburg (Burgi) and Johann (Hans) farmed this open land, as they needed the hay for their agriculture. It belonged to Burgi’s family at the time and was divided into quarters among the 4 daughters. However, two of her sisters had no interest in the “Bichl”, as they called this property. So Burgi had the idea to buy it and had the vision of turning it into building land for her 5 children and their descendants.
In 1972, she was able to acquire 2/4 from two of her sisters and from then on owned 3/4 of the property. The last quarter was added later. Sadly, she passed away in 1991. She was a very loving and warm mother and grandmother, was always there for everyone, and told her grandchildren the most wonderful stories; astrology was her passion.

She Was a Very Wise and Far-Sighted Woman

Her 5 children then inherited her beautiful sunny “Bichl” and tried to make her vision a reality, continuing to work on having the land re-zoned as building land. In 1995, Burgi’s youngest son, who still lives in Scharnitz by the way, was able to acquire the remaining quarter, and thus the entire plot now belonged to the Manzl family property. However, it proved very difficult to connect utilities like access, sewage, water, wastewater, and electricity. Retaining walls had to be built, not to mention the costs. Burgi and Hans’s second son had experience in this. He worked as a master builder and was able to make his mother Burgi’s vision possible, so that it could be built upon. For this (to cover the development costs), a small part had to be sold, but the largest part remained in family ownership. It took years, but in 2014, it was finally ready.

It Was Building Land.

However, her 5 children were now well-provided for, having established their own residences, so they decided to sell it on to the next generation.

Grandma and Grandpa Made it Possible Years Ago.

They created a foundation that lasted for generations. And now Mario, the current owner, also wants to give something back and names his two new chalets Edburg’s Lodge and Johann’s Lodge. In memory of his grandparents and as a tribute to his very wise grandmother Burgi.

She would certainly be proud if she could see what now stands on “her Bichl” and what it has become.

With a family cohesion across generations, their vision became a reality and will continue to grow. Mario is very similar to his grandmother Burgi, he is also a visionary, he still has big plans for Grandma’s “Bichl”… stay tuned ;)
